oral piercings care instructions

   

 

good oral hygiene is required!

   Daily care of 
  oral piercing

mix 2 tbs. sea salt to 1 liter water. 
swish and spit sea salt & water solution
 after eating and smoking.
(with normal activity 4-5 times a day)
Rinse mouth with plain water 
after using salt solution.

 

what to expect
A normal oral piercing

  • may be swollen and 
    uncomfortable for 3-5 days

  • Can be tender for 1-2 weeks

  • may secrete whitish 
    or yellowish substance
    around jewelry. 
    this is not pus!

  • may bleed for the 
    first few days

infections
signs and symptoms of infection are:

  • Increased pain

  • redness

  • increased swelling after the first 5 days

  • warm sensation around the piercing

  • discolored discharge that 
    is yellow, green or gray in color.

Do not remove your jewelry!
This may make matters worse! An abscess can form if you remove the jewelry of an infected piercing. your jewelry helps drain away the infection from the piercing.

 If not allergic take 600-800mg of ibuprofen every six hours for the first 24 hours. reduce dosage to 200-400mg 
every 4-6 hours as needed to reduce swelling

Chew  ice at  least every hour for ten minutes while awake during the first 24-48 hours. this  helps reduce swelling.

Take vitamin c 1000-3000mg every day, 
along with zinc 60-120mg 
to speed healing and prevent infection.

very important!
do not use mouthwash!
harsh chemicals in mouthwash kill your bodies own defenses to infection, and significantly prolong healing time.

  • no hot, spicy or acidic food for the first 3-5 days

  • eat a healthy diet and get the sleep you need.

  • cleanse exterior facial piercings once daily with mild soap. and once with sea salt solution rinse thoroughly!

  • do not smoke! if you do smoke you will have a longer healing period.

  • avoid oral contact....no tongue kissing , oral sex, etc. for at least six weeks.

  • do n0t remove jewelry for the first 4-6 weeks.
